replacing crankshaft position sensor
chriseds - October 28th, 2011 at 12:08 PM

Hi
Im searching for detailed instructions on how to replace the crankshaft position sensor on a 2.8 BBG engine (passat 2001).
Total newbie, if experienced veedubbers consider its too ambitious for a total newbie i would like the name of a garage around Dandenong (in Melbourne's south east) where i can get this done. Problem is the car in question has been broken down in my drive way since tuedsay. trying to avoid paying for a tow truck if possible. Can anyone reccomend a mobile mechanic service? Thanks chris:dork:

Join your version of NRMA/RACV whatever, it may not be the crank angle sensor...

My Mk3 Golf's crank angle sensor failed last year. It was intermittent and I had several other components replaced first. The engine would just die suddenly (always from idle) without warning then refuse to start until left alone for at least two hours. Then it was fine again. Extremely annoying.

When it happened in the afternoon traffic I had it towed to Barloworld Volkswagen at Five Dock (Sydney) and they fixed it. It was the first time I have had any of my VWs fixed at a genuine VW dealer for more than 30 years !

There is a Barloworld at Glen Waverley, not too far from Dandenong. Why not give them a ring (03)9550 5783 and see what they recommend.
