- innovative steel belt application
- high strength carbon steel used for belt members punched in Solingen Germany
- belt members fixed by clips installed by hand
- clips made of copper beryllium alloy and coated with black nylon
- pulleys made of cast nylon useable up to 120 degree Celsius
- innovation useable for all low power belt applications
- patented in Europe, USA, Japan and some more countries
- the VW Beetle Engine was just the demonstrator (the system was not specially invented for the VW Beetle Engine)
- useable for type 1 engines with DC Generator (the test engine used this type of generator)
- the belt consumes nearly no deformation energy
- the system operates with a very low pre-load (you can rotate the generator pulley by hand at engine shut down)
- about 10 years of testing to understand the physics of the belt system
- normal grease not useable therefore special grease developed
- easy to install with just two Allen Keys
- set comprises two belts
- 104 AUD low introductory price (30% off) by using discount code LA29SQZ1OY89 including shipping

Does it work with aluminium pulleys and alternator. Is any louder or quieter than standard belt. Thanks greg

Hello Greg,

The steel belt made of razor blade steel with a ultrahigh tensile strength of 2000 MPa (7 times the strength of steel used for house construction) need cast nylon as contact partner. With this material combination NO wear occurs. We have tested this combination since 2008 in several long time tests with more than 100000 test hours.

The VW Beetle Engine Type 1 with DC Generator was the mobile test facility. As you can see on the pictures the arm member supporting the small tensioner pulley is supported by a brass shaft clamped by the generator bracket between generator and generator support.

This kind of supporting the tensioner pulley is not possible with an alternator because of the greater diameter of the alternator.

The force transfer beween engine and generator happens more smoothly when using the steel belt compared to a rubber belt. The engine is accelerating more like a jet engine than like a four stroke engine. Customers told me the got the impression the engine is running also with a lower noise level.

For further information you are welcome.

Best wishes

For testing the innovation we are ready to send some sets for free to Australia. So if your Beetle Engine has a DC Generator and you are really interested in testing a very special mechanical innovation please contact me at engineering@syngear.co.uk.
