Hi there,

thanks,

BUGBOY - June 8th, 2007 at 09:16 AM

Welcome to the Country buggy section.
I hope this section will help with finding more history about an Australian built Volkswagen as well as giving assistance to those of us that drive or are currently restoring one.
Not a great deal is really know about them but maybe this will help piece the puzzle so to speak?

As an owner of a few myself and having a great interest in them I put forward the idea of this section.
So please feel free to post here or contact me with any ideas or suggestions etc.

Nathan

I thought I'd take a minute and say hello to all here at the CB Forum.
I am thrilled to learn of this new information resource relating to the very, very rare VW Country Buggy.
Nathan kindly posted the forum link in a Samba Thing Forum thread, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue about this.
You can get a little background on me from the New Users Forum in the thread New User From USA,
http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=64373

I'll gladly entertain questions or comments from forum members regarding CB'c, particularly those in the US.
I'm not here to get in the way or infringe, only to learn.
I have struggled and stumbled around the site and the software a bit, and while I don't feel I have mastered everything here, I feel I'm making progress.
I beg your indulgence and forgiveness for any learner's indiscretions on my part.

Thanks to Andrew and Nathan for getting this resource going!
;-)

Regards,
Steve

Lee,
Good picture. Do you have any more oddball Country Buggy photos.?
Its good to a see a couple of US based VW eccentrics joining the Forum and getting involved in the CB scene. I have been corresponding with both Steve and Erich over many years.
Bill.

Is there a post deidicated just to country buggy photos - I sort of thought someone had done one but I couldnt find it.. Once someone clarrifys if it has been done we could start posting some pics - I have a fair few from various buggies around the place.

Would be good to see the various colours, modifications etc all in the one place, rather than stumbling across them in abscure posts.

What ya think ?

Peter

ztnoo - January 3rd, 2008 at 08:33 PM

Peter,
I think that's an excellent idea!
I too would love to see a Gallery of CB pics.
Samba has specific galleries for different types of VWs and it is very useful and an interesting place to review.
I have searched the net high and low and have quite a collection of CB pics saved to file from all over the place.....I use them as a screen saver.
I do know there are scores of CB pics posted in various threads and forums here at AVD, but the only way to access them is to do a search for "Country Buggy" and then read the individual threads in which the pics are attached.
It can be done, (I have done it) but the process is very cumbersome, slow, and tedious.
Some sort of mechanism which would allow for a Gallery of CB pics would be really neat......and much easier to access.
Maybe Andrew and Nathan could consider a way to pull this off.
It would be a great resource.

Regards,
Steve

Pault - January 3rd, 2008 at 10:46 PM

Hi Steve and Peter,

A few months back after I first posted details of my car, I put up a suggestion that it would be good if other country buggy owners on this forum posted a few pictures and a brief description about their cars, and I think only one person responded - volma1.

http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=65024&page=1

I don't know how many buggy owners are on this forum, but I think it's a great idea, I'd love to see what other people own and what they are doing with their car in the way of restoration. We all talk on the forum but don't really know what each person drives.

But I also understand if people want to keep a bit of privacy as well.

Regards
Paul

Here's my collection of Country Buggy Pics.....some off the net, some taken by me....

11CAB,
Great set of pics!
I have seen some of them in other AVD threads, but lots of them are completely new to me.
tn IMG 1480 & tn IMG 1481 are particularly intesting and different. Wonder what the story behind this vehicle is?

Here's a couple of links of CB's some of you may not have viewed before. I can't link directly to my search results for these pics and posters, so the whole albums open up and you have to go to the pages noted below to view the CB's.

The Country Buggy
Oldbug.com's latest Oddity from Afar
(This is Randy Carlson's restoration of a few years back here in the US. His web site used to have many more pics of the car but they have since been taken down. These pics are from a VW Trends article about the car.)

It would be great to be able to assemble CB pics in one place.
How about it Nathan and Andrew???

Steve

Hey there's some great pictures in there. Well done.

Do you know who owns this one: http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/album435/100_2980

I'd like to found out what his roof is made from. Looks like sheet metal but not sure.

Paul

11CAB - May 5th, 2008 at 08:23 AM

Not sure who owns it, I saw it at Dubs by the Pub, and yes the roof is made of metal

58camper - May 5th, 2008 at 07:47 PM

Charlie Burke is the owner of the CB with the odd shaped hardtop which was done in sheetmetal. Charlie is from Tasmania. About four years ago he set out on a round Australia trip in this CB. I caught up with him at Valla ( two Valla's ago) and he had just motored up the East Coast to Valla. The last I heard from him was up around Darwin about 12 months ago and I assume he is still travelling. He has spotted some other CBs on his travels as well as two Haflingers. I think he is still travelling.

The CB Photo collection is a gem and I will sort through some of my collection and see if there are some others I can add.

Lee

68AutoBug - May 6th, 2008 at 12:40 AM

Number 92 pic
the yellow Victorian Country buggy with non genuine headlamps and blinkers...

photo in this months issue of VWA magazine...

the different headlamps and blinkers make it look much better

ztnoo - May 6th, 2008 at 09:47 PM

Lee,
I believe you are correct.
Bill Moore can better answer that question.
I believe there were two prototypes assembled.

cb john - May 6th, 2008 at 10:13 PM

Pic No 974 is in my opinion customised CB, no prototype.

58camper - May 7th, 2008 at 02:40 PM

Guys,
The Picture referred to is definately one of the original prototypes owned by a guy in Tasmania. The pic was taken at the cars first display last year at a show. I have had the picture verified by an ex factory guy to helped build the vehicle and the owner has been able to go back in Victoria Roads and Traffic authority to get details of the original registration of the car verifying chassis number ( which was a wierd one)
Its a special vehicle in the CB history.

11CAB - May 7th, 2008 at 05:04 PM

Ok, this is Pic 974 and to me it looks like a normal Country Buggy on a balljoint floorpan and has a lift kit.

http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/albums/album558/974_G.sized.jpg

This is the Prototype that Bill is referring to.

Thanks
Graham

11CAB - May 9th, 2008 at 07:38 PM
