hi to all...just wondering what is the substitute wiper motor for a CB? since mine was lost...its hard to get an original...thanks..photos are greatly appreciated...

Different to a split bus.
They have the wiper switch on the back of the unit.

Since pics are such a great learning & visual tool, I rummaged around in my CB pic files to find some shots of wiper motors.

Pic 1. This is Randy Carlson's Oldbug (USA) restoration.
Pic 2. This is Erich Kircher's (USCB) recent import to the USA.
Pic 3. Ditto. Left side shot.
Pic 4. I think this is Nathan's CB???
Pic 5. This is another CB in the US...the ex-Ken Walker car.
Bill Moore and I refer to this car as "The Memphis CB".

Hope the pics help identify the part.
Also, any one with a parts list should be able to crossreference the part number with other VW models sold in Oz during the CB production time frame.
Bill or cbjohn probably could help on this question.

they are pretty much a 1 off and very hard to find, they always break off at the switch on the back.

The part # was 12Y 955 013 but that was a CB part number manufactured externally and specific only to the CB.
The original unit is an SWF Germany manufacture. They are like rocking horse shit to find today. In 2004 I managed to track down two NOS units in the UK and bought both of them. Cost me more than one of my cars did.
Antique Tyres in Melbourne have a similar replacement wiper motor on their website and I know one guy has had success in fitting to his CB with limited problem. Check out their website and drill down into their wiper motor section. The good thing- they are available in 6 or 12 volt according to the website.

they are very similar to wiper motors assemblies You could buy 10 years ago from most Agricultural farm suppliers

I think a UK company called VAPORMATIC used to sell them in Australia

they were for tractors with basic cabs fitted..

I had to register to get anywhere within the site and the navigation is initially a little odd to me, but I was able to locate a couple of wiper motors.

Given OEM or NOS replacements parts are almost impossible to come by, there well may be several owners out there that are looking for a reasonable solution to this problem, without totally aborting their windscreen frames in an attempt to arrive at a working solution.

Vapormatic has two models of motors which may work, albeit with some modifications to adapt to a CB.

The two models appear to be the same in specs, other than a difference in "wiped arc".

I didn't know before reading this post that the Country Buggy wiper motor had the switch on the back...

I have a few spares, All my wrecks are still also fitted with wiper motors.
Don't know if any work, never tested them.
i'd be prepared to sell one I guess.

It would appear to me after a little net research this morning, SWF is either a wholly owned subsidiary of Valeo, or SWF uses Valeo as a marketing and distribution network for their windscreen products.
Valeo appears to be a Euro centered automotive part conglomerate making all manner of items.
Valeo has a subdivision exclusively devoted to wiper systems:

There is very little info on SWF on the net......other than wiper blades.
My instinct tells me this was likely an independent company at the time it was supplying wiper motors for CB's that got swallowed up in a corporate merger of some sort.....a very common occurrence over the last 40 years.
Still, with this info, those with European contacts might have a shot at locating some original wiper motors somewhere.

Anyone have a clue as to what the original SWF part number was???

Yes i have a wiper motor for a KB IS YOURS 6 VOLT

I know that this is an old thread but was having a look at wiper motors for a buggy project that I am planning and came across this unit, its switched from the back of the unit and looks like it may be suitable as a cheaper alternative and its similar to look at, cheers Greg
