1959 Logo Beetle anyone know history?
kuta - June 17th, 2014 at 07:49 PM

Just bought this 59 beetle project. Plan is to fix rust, damage, rebuild original motor and change incorrect parts.

Does anyone know the history of this car? I believe it spent some time in South Aus.

The shopping list so far (missing) if anyone can help out is - Visor and mirror, floor mats, drivers seat red and grey, drivers mirror, rear bumper and over riders, wipers, snowflake tail lights and brackets, window repair sections to cut out rust front and back, 36hp muffler.

Please PM me if you can help, thanks Sean.

Very cool score mate! Have you seen its brother? The other Grey coloured klinger and Seeger beetle doiing the rounds with almost identical sign writing on it? One of my favourites!

Would love to know more!!
Dealer is still trading around Glen Iris Vic. I don't know if they are the original family owners or if it was sold off.

Just checked my dealership database. The only authorised Volkswagen dealership in Glen Iris was Spencer Motors, who were at 66 High Street from 1958 to 1966. The site is now a bottle shop.

There is no listing for a Klinger and Seeger, so they must have been a non-factory, aftermarket VW workshop.

You could try contacting the library at Ashburton or Camberwell and see if they have old '60s local newspapers on fiche. You can often find local dealer / workshop ads.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully someone will know some history.

Another great source of info is old telephone directories - the old white pages and pink pages. The Victorian State Library should have all the old ones on microfiche - or even the original paper editions in the stacks.

Klinger & Seeger Motors

Klinger and Seeger Motors just changed hands a few months ago, the building is still there and still is a mechanics workshop, there was another one of their courtesy cars that sold a few years ago and i now believe resides in NSW (Anthracite grey sign written and BRMs)

Well there you go. I mentioned the old directories in the library, as I assumed they went out of business years ago.

Many of the Sydney equivalents are long gone - Geddes, Bob Whyms, Rogwin, Beetle Wreckers, Rogate, SKH, Bug Parts, Bug Inn, etc etc, not to mention Cloughs and Swanton's.

Wow guys!! Love it. When I get it on the road I will have to take it down there for photos and a chat.

Would love to see the other courtesy car.
