KalgoorlieGreg - August 26th, 2016 at 04:09 PM

Hey all,

Can anybody help identify the Beetle I've just brought, and if there is anything special I should know about it??

Cheers, Greg.

Thats it!
What are you plans for it? I've got a white deluxe 66 too :D

wombatventures - August 26th, 2016 at 06:24 PM

I'd say you've bought a pretty cool project Greg. Make a cool Patina ride.
:tu:

KalgoorlieGreg - August 26th, 2016 at 08:17 PM

Plans are for a total strip down, find and fix rust, and fresh paint. Thinking of a Herbie inspired clone.

tristanm - August 26th, 2016 at 09:17 PM

So many herbie clones getting around, unless you want to be a clone do something original! :D

KalgoorlieGreg - August 26th, 2016 at 11:32 PM

Does a Class 11 Herbie count?

Original intention was to do a Baja but this one is just so clean, straight and so far, fairly rust free. I'm not a VW person per se, I like all cars for what they are and what they can be, so I'm not worried about originality, but there is no way on Earth I can take an angle grinder and plasma cutter to this one.

Besides, as long as it's white, I'm happy. Wife and kids want Herbie. I want Class 11 so I can go red dirt road exploring!

Oh, I'm an Aluminium Welder Fabricator (Boilermaker) by trade, so cutting and welding is right up my alley!

Not really that many Herbie's about.

Valla 2016 - about 650 VW's of all persuasions and five Herbies.

I have the only Herbie clone in Hobart and think there are three others in the north of the state.

Get a lot of enjoyment out of it from seeing other peoples reaction, on the trip from Hobart to Valla we were asked so many times if we didn't mind having a photo taken.

Good luck with the project.

G'day and welcome

a Herbie done well is sweet
I have front cut one in the back yard as a bit of "art"

If it is just vinyl stickers you can always peel them off.
If the kids want it and it gets them into it.......................go for it

Whatever......... enjoy the ride

vw54 - August 27th, 2016 at 09:11 AM

Aussie built 1966 1300 F series engine with a lot of dust on it

time for the hi pressure gernie inside and out

I'm from Hobart, Howrah originally, then Moonah, then Old Beach, then Warrane. Still have a house there as a rental.

landfall - August 27th, 2016 at 08:39 PM

KG, you better bring it down here then, would love to have another one to accompany us.

Kalgoorlie, you're a long way from home.

VW scene here is terrible.

KalgoorlieGreg - August 29th, 2016 at 12:42 AM

Engine after a quick clean.

KalgoorlieGreg - August 29th, 2016 at 12:44 AM

KalgoorlieGreg - August 29th, 2016 at 12:45 AM

KalgoorlieGreg - August 29th, 2016 at 12:54 AM

bevoracing - August 29th, 2016 at 03:29 PM

Car’s good, but I like the Whippet.
I had one once. They’re like the Formula 2 of dogs.

Not quite. We have two retired racer greyhounds. Our girl in the photo did 750m in 41 seconds in her prime.

Hi there,

I didn't realise there were three Herbie Replicas up in Northern Tasmania. Do you have any information on the other two?

1cut808 - May 12th, 2017 at 09:17 PM

Where did you rustle the bug up from Greg?

KalgoorlieGreg - May 12th, 2017 at 11:31 PM

Was sitting in a backyard here in Kal.

ultrasuede - May 29th, 2017 at 04:15 PM
