Front tire size?

Hey all,

I have a question that I've searched for an answer without much luck. The Samba isn't much good because this is also a roadworthy question.

Original tires on my 66 were 165R15 on the 15x4 rims. I'm going up to 15x6 (with original backspacing), but having trouble finding narrow tires for the front. Going to run 205 or 215 on the rear, but where can I find 175/75 or 185/70? Looked on the big tire joints Web pages and coming up with nothing. I don't want to run 195/65.

And what is legally the narrowest tire I can run on a 6 inch wide rim?

Cheers, Greg.

Hi
Original size radial tyres on a beetle was 155sr15 which are now considered vintage tyres and are now expensive to buy...
so everyone is using 165 80 15 tyres these days...
which are readily available..

I am using 165 80 15 tyres on wide rims.... but have never measured them but I'm guessing they are 6 inches wide...

These are 165 R15 on a 6 inch wide rim. Side walls slightly stretched.
