Beetle help.
Taz62vdub - December 23rd, 2016 at 10:27 PM

Hey guys, new here. I have just purchased my first beetle. 1962, patina, new pans/chassis, new suspension, new brakes, reco motor 1600 twin port, reco box, narrow beam, blah blah blah. I have obtained a RWC and club permit, however there are still a few things that need to be sorted.

Now I take my 2012 golf to VolkAffair in Port Melbourne. I have spoken to them about the beetle, and have been advised that they can sort everything out for me on an hourly rate bases. Reading between the lines all I can see is dollar signs. Any suggestions? I'm somewhat mechanically minded and happy to tackle a few things on my own, but I'm a firm believer of leaving it to the professionals.

An excellent first buy is the "Idiots guide", this manual explains most of the workings of the volksie and is a great book even just to browse. If you can't find what you want this forum is also excellent with members always will to assist with advice and assistance.
Enjoy your new vehicle.

The more you can do yourself the cheaper it will be.
Old VW's are a continuous work in progress
Your car will be 55 years old next year

A great web site that has LOTS of information is Rob and Dave's http://www.vw-resource.com

I used the "Idiots Guide" just last weekend to set valve clearances. The best book I ever bought. Had the book for 22 yeras. Had air cooled VW's for 23 years. The book has saved me heaps of dollar signs.

I'm guessing eBay? Does it deal with modified beetles? I've got adjustable spring plates, narrow beams, discs, ect.
