New front beam?
KalgoorlieGreg - April 13th, 2017 at 05:20 PM

Hi all,

Discovered the front beam on Frank, my 66, is bent while stripping him down for sandblasting.

Given I'm upgrading from a 1300SP to a 1600DP, and need a new beam, I may as well get disc brakes too.

Can you buy fully assembled beams with the discs attached or do I need to do the yakka myself?

Cheers, Greg.

If you take out the trailing arms and check for bearing wear on the arms and the bearings in the tubes, if the front end is bent at the edge of the frames and has not effected the bearings and they are serviceable then you could straighten the front end, I have done this before, as for the brakes there are kits available for the link pin front end, you can get the wide five pattern or the latter four stud ,the master cylinder will have to changes to a dual circuit one and an engineers inspection carried out. http://rodpenroseracing.com.au/vw-5-x-205-kits/1388-wide-5-5-x-205-front-disc... or http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10-4120

Once I get the body off, I'll investigate further. Getting all the unboltables ready for blasting and priming first.
