Bumper bar swaps
justbrett - November 2nd, 2007 at 09:14 PM

Hi all

Noob to beetles here so please forgive what might be a simple question. I've just bought two 1970 1500's that I will be turning into one car.

Thing is, I really prefer the older rounded style bumpers. Would these bolt on?

Cheers.

Not without modifications. There were various styles of rounded bumpers up to 1967. They had different mounting brackets.
Often people change the guards as well as the bumpers if they want to go for that early look.

You can buy brackets from the states that allow you to run early bars on late cars. Check out thesamba.com or one of the bigger VW shops like CIP or Ispwest etc.

Hi

I'm pretty sure that you can use 75 and later bug bumper brackets for this purpose. I read it somewhere. The ones like #9 in this picture.

Have a look at the next VW show You go to...

there are many of late cars with early bumpres
and also with early front guards and sloping headlamps..

Once You see how its done..
its very simple
You just need a welder... or some one with one... lol

nothing is impossible...
just a darn sight harder....

Yep - just take the rubber block off the top and use
