1974 Beetle Question..
BRENO - April 3rd, 2008 at 02:57 AM

I just got my first (hopefully of many) Vw's a week ago and there are two little levers under the handbrake that pull upwards.

At first i thought it was the choke because i only noticed one, then i saw the other one. Havent relly tried to suss them out, lifted them up and down a couple of times on my way to work and nothing happened.

Was hoping they are ejector seat levers.

Any answers appreciated. :dork:

the levers are for your heater

the one next to the drivers is for the main heater to flow hot air from the engine to the vents on the floor

if you slide the vent plate or lever across it will direct hot air up to the windscreen vents

the lever on the pass side is for the rear heaters and open the outlet on the lower rear kick panel this will not work unless the main lever is pulled up

If you pull the main lever up and feel NO air flow on either side at the lover vents then the cables may not be attached on the heater box end on the engine or the engine may not be fitted with heat exchangers

if you have a stock engine then the carby has a electronic choke fitted

Thanks heaps for the responses. I looked through my owners manual that i found in the door card (not in the pocket, behind the actual door card!) and theres heaps of little things i didnt realise.

Like dimming the instrument panel lights and stuff.

Ive had the bug for 1 week and 4 days and already have a VW photo collection twice that of my truck collection that ive been adding to for over a year now haha.

I;ve got the bug.

All my heaters work, but that doesnt count now I killed my engine. I was hoping they were ejector seats as well.
