Is there any guidlenes as to what fuel should be used for a 1969 Beetle, which originally ran on Lead?

Can I just run it on unleaded, and what octain would be best?

Do I need to add something to the unleaded petrol, if so what and how often?

u'll find about 99% of ppl just run reg unleaded and the rest are paranoid and run that lead substitute valve saver crap for no reason

US hasnt had leaded fuel since the 70s
all twin port engines were built to run on unleaded and nearly all single port motors have been rebuilt over the years with unleaded valve guides installed and those that havent have enough lead embedded in the guides it doesnt matter

running premuim fuel in a air cooled vw isnt gonna do anything unless u adjust the timing to suit higher octane fuel

Cheers,

Thanks for that. The thought of paying $1.70/ltr. for premium fuel here in WA does not fill me with joy.

Be aware that the E10 "can" cause damage to rubber fuel lines and steel tanks
Both of these are present in VW beetles

Basically my choice is standard unleaded for stockers and higher premium as the comp ratio goes up
