Looking to buy some new shocks for my beetle its a 66 swing axle rear and is slammed on its ass.

Which shocks should i go for?

It seems KYB's are popular but heard they are really stiff.

Any help would be great!

I would stick with oil shocks...

rear heavy duty oil shocks are OK for the rear of a beetle..


Gas shocks weren't invented when VWs were designed..
and shocks used to be single acting.... lol

bit like a gas shock I suppose... lol

but NO Pressure....

and oil shocks need to be primed too.. by Hand...

450 mm centre of hole to centre of hole - stretched out
280 mm centre of hole to centre of hole - compressed

I just measured a pair of New gabriel shocks I have to put on My beetle....
hopefully that will help...

Just measure Your car from hole to hole with it lowered..

these shocks maybe too long for your lowered beetle...
so You will need something else...

You may find it hard to order shocks from lengths...

I found a pair of shorter front ones for My front lowered 68 beetle on ebay...
I just asked how long were they compressed and opened out...

Gas are also pressurised.... UPWARDS...

and very hard for a beetle suspension... IMHO...

OK for new cars that were designed for them...

My rear shocks are 350mm from centre of hole to centre of hole in the car...
car is not lowered...

so You would need much shorter shocks

maybe 350mm EXTENDED...

maybe 200mm compressed...
