How rare are the factory aircon units for the bay windows
mkII_baja - August 5th, 2013 at 09:10 PM

I'm thinking of picking up the remainder of a 76 bay window from which I have already purchased the 2 ltr and auto.
While looking over it today I noticed that it had a what looks to be a factory fitted air con unit (internal roof mounted T shape)
I have never seen one of these before, Are there many around??

I think the whole set up is there other than the compressor
Can you still get parts for them ?

Cheers Jade

they are certainly not common

I have seen a "few" in the last say 30 years

You would still be able to get the compressor parts - it would be the roof bit that would be hard to get

Grab it if it is easy

There not very common they seem to of been mostly fitted to micro buses. I've not seen many people bother putting one in as there a pain in the arse if you don't have all the bits and info, I've heard of people using a later model pump for better efficiency. I've seen a few come up for sale before but they never seem to sell. Mabey a lot of effort for less power when driving your bus on a hot day.
IMO buy a set of front door vent wings much cooler and you don't have to worry about all the fragile parts breaking on the 40 year old fiberglass over head duct work.
