Paint layer removal - Rat style
surreyp - October 29th, 2013 at 08:26 AM

Hey all the experts out there running rats, my van is ex air force and has been resprayed. The respray is flaking off showing some interesting original symbols, which might be good to keep.

So how do I get the repray off and get down to the original airforce paintjob?

I believe there was an article in one of the latest Vw mags about a guy getting a kombi from Texas and taking it back to the UK and stripping it back. I'll search for it and let you know ASAP. It was a red kombi I believe.

If you decide to use oven cleaner get easy off not mr muscle they have different ingredients mr muscle doesn't work at all. You might be best to scrape it off. Iv just taken a coat of grey back to the original blue on my 55 split by scraping then easy off to get the primer off underneath.. It's very very very time consuming but worth the effort.
