Not knowing how large they are..
Good idea to place a measuring device or a beetle 1/4 window next to them
they do look like those from a beetle apart from the odd latches.

maybe an early bay window accessory??
but wouldn't they have had the locking button latches??
as beetles had the locking buttons from before 1960..

Nah Lee
its longer and a different shape to a beetle one, has a rego sticker nsw 1978 that pretty cool

sgetty - January 4th, 2014 at 03:41 PM

comparison, see beetle is shorter and different shape

that latch location is all wrong for beetle too, what about type 3 early anyone?

68AutoBug - January 4th, 2014 at 07:22 PM

Yes, maybe early type 3 ??
although You would have thought it would have had locking buttons too??
they did have standard and deluxe versions of the type 3 in Germany
maybe a standard??
type 4 as in 411 412 ??

interesting the NSW rego sticker too..
so they were on something..??

Its definately not a bay kombi - they are much taller.

Would be a Type 3 or maybe a type 4?

Are you certain they are VW? Could be another make with those latches.

Just measured a Beetle and a Bus quarter.

When measuring inside between the top and bottom of the aluminium frame. Not including the inner latch. So I measured outside of the assembly between the top and bottom of the frame.

Beetle was about 29 cm
Bus was about 36 cm

The Quarters you have do have a similar bottom pivot clamp to a bay bus. They are similar to bay bus in style of rubber and pivot clamp, but not size

Type 4 has one piece window (no 1/4 window)

Andy - January 5th, 2014 at 10:34 PM

Could be type 3.
This is a '73, so different latch, but shape would be similar to earlier models

Looking at the 1955 Oval for sale here

with ribbed doors

looks the same 1/4 window...

same or similar latch
