snap - lopsided!
flippo - February 16th, 2008 at 09:52 AM

Was driving my 72 micro out of my folks house this morning and I heard a loud bang. thought maybe it was backfiring because it's due for a tune, but then realised when I parked it later on that it was lopsided. I think I may have broken a spring?

I'm about 2 hours away from my home , and my usualy VW mechanic, also I haven't really got the funds to repair her at the moment.

How much damage could I do driving her home in this state? or should I think about getting a couple of trains untill I have the cash to fix her at a closer mechanic?

Hi flippo (or loppo, as you are at the moment).

I can't guess what's broken but you definitely don't want to be driving it anywhere but *carefully* and *slowly* to the nearest mechanic/garage to get it assessed. If it's something like a hub failure (unlikely, but something has given way) it is v. risky to drive.

Tell us where you are and there might be a helpful aussieveedubber nearby who can diagnose for you...

Sounds like a torsion bar has broken....not a good idea to drive it like that.
