Sad Karmann Ghia
Menangler - December 22nd, 2016 at 05:59 PM

I bought this Ghia recently, it had been sitting under a tree for about 10 years with all its windows smashed, I has had a lot of poor repairs done to it over the years, the body is shot, what a waist of a beautiful car.

Strip and chemical dip to see what's left might be a good project

I have a jig for proper alignment of the headlamp buckets, if you need it. Maybe some other stuff...

I would suggest there wouldn't be much left. Some good parts on it though. I would find a solid cheap LHD car and use the parts from this to convert it to RHD.
Much cheaper and easier in the long run.
Trust me I seen what a good looking Ghia looks like stripped let alone one in this condition.
That's just my opinion after many ten's of thousand's $ later.

Aahhh Karmann Ghias

Designed to do 2 things Look a pretty and rust

They do both so well

Most are missing the bottom 6 inches anyway!

Make it your own. Just don't waste it

Wish I still had mine

Congrats on the purchase, it is so sad when such a beautiful car is left to rot. best of luck fixing it.

I brought my 1961 Ghia at Roberts Auto Centre in Gosford in 1967 wooed and won my wife in it, drove it to Brisbane on our honeymoon, then drove it 80 km a day for 15 years to work, carried both of our children in it when they were little, used it for the bridal car for our eldest son when he married and it i still my favourite motor car---What an awesome little car and looking forward to using it more often, I know that it needs a little tender loving care but it has been used and shows it's character. There are many stories in this little car and it has lived a lot longer than a lot of my mates.
