1967 RHD Australian Squareback - "Elanora"
shaven - May 4th, 2012 at 04:59 PM

well where to start...

firstly i'd like to introduce you all to "Elanora". my newly acquired 1967 Squareback. some may think they know her already under another alias or from other thread. well you are spot on!

it isn't very often i name a car (actually never) but i thought she deserved it. her name is from the suburb that we will be picking her up from... Elanora Heights. from there, she starts her new life (sounds like a bloody kid).

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=486161&highlight= = check the last post out... the plan was in place :P

this car belonged to Simon (canyoudrivestick?). the story to date is in the thread that he started... great story but not fully told after speaking with him over the last few months.

Elanora is at a stage of completion... just a few little things to tidy up. my wife & myself should be picking her up within the next 1-2 weeks then we will take a road trip together back home over 3-4 days.

im going to transfer some old build pics then ill add some new updated ones as we go... start a little story on her

Elanora lives here now

the old Elanora in 2008

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x18/shaven69/1967%20Squareback/Image0071.jpg

Simons idea was to take it back to original... well as close as possible with a few mods  her transformation taking place. 2008 she was painted... & thats where she sat covered up for the next 2.5yrs... :o

its a part Phil Benfield engine from Peninsula Engine Services. phil & his son daniel did the balancing, porting and polishing (lightened flywheel too) etc. Marcus Osborne worked his mechanical magic & built the engine at Phils.

Phil is old school race engine builder. its a 1776cc, the carbs are Weber 40 IDFs - original italian (from an Alfa) ... it runs an Engle 110 cam - from all reports on the 500km road run in was "it's very hilly in Sydney (Elanora Heights) and eats them up, lots of torque. what it's gonna be like when it's tuned and jetted is mouth watering...

the build

haha.

"where the dog sits on the tucker box... 9 miles from Gundagai!" ____ Slim Dusty lyrical quote :D

Noice ride mate. :tu:

donn - June 3rd, 2012 at 05:11 PM

Well nothing to do with this bloody nice dub, but I've never heard of the dog on the tucker box being connected with Slim Dusty, though wouldn't surprise me if he did sing a few bars of it in a few bars, always thought it had two fellas connected with it, Bowyang Yorke and Jack Moses. Still, as I said, thats nothn to do with this prime example of a square.

shaven - June 4th, 2012 at 09:24 PM

tacker75 - June 5th, 2012 at 05:01 PM

Hey Matty,
No thread. The guy I bought it from resprayed it for me so got a few snapps of that, plus some photos of when it was originally restored about 6-7 years ago. Unfortunately got rear ended a month or so ago and it is an economic write off, still driveable and registered, but shes stuffed.

Empi - fat chicks need loving as well, I am normally happy to oblidge.
