Thatís the correct air cleaner and pipes. The split window Type 2s had the pipes on the cleaner the other way around, as they mounted on the left. I believe these were on some early Type 2s, not just CBs, but I canít confirm that.
Service Information 21/69 tells the dealers to make several modification to their stock, and customer cars as they come in for service. These included cutting off the elbow so there is only a straight section on the carb side of the cleaner and moving the air cleaner around so the pipe fits again. Strangely enough Iíve never seen one with this bit cut off?

Cheers
Tony

Actually I'm not too surprised about that. When one considers how few CBs were produced and sold in Oz (* 887 produced and available for the Australian Sales Market) and what the bulk of them were utilitized for on farms, ranchs, and the Outback, most probably never made it back to a dealership for service.....probably of any kind. I would guess less than 1% (8.87) ever made in for dealer service which would have allowed for the suggested modification. That Service Information sheet was probably inserted into most dealers loose leaf binders, and never referred to again.

Likely the only service done was by the owners......maybe the occasional crackcase and or air filter oil change. My bet is that signiifcant numbers were NEVER serviced EVER, or minimally, and just eventually crapped out and got stuck in shed or simply left under a tree or out in the open.

Its really a wonder there are as many survivors as there are still alive and kicking.

Regards,
Steve
