chances are you need to have your king pins ground to get them round again, then you'll have to have bushes made.

Hi Krisko & Ducatiman
The front brakes are the last drum brakes on a type 2. They had the smaller (Holden) bearings like the disc brake front ends. Type 2 went to ball joints with the small bearings in 68 or 69 (still with drums) and then changed over to discs. Country Buggies are the last of the drums, with the small bearings. Rears are the last of the swing axle type 2s.

The bushes in the king pins are 24mm ID, 28mm OD, same as Type 2 to 67, but as BUGBOY said, the pins will need grinding. I’ve never seen one that didn’t, they’re all rather badly built too. The king pin surfaces are never in line with each other. I always re-assemble the king pins, grind the pin surfaces to round & parallel, then make the new bushes to suit (presuming there’s nothing else wrong). More often than not the interference area is a problem, the pins need welding or the KP bush bores need line boring. The bush bores were never straight, round or parallel, they took up the difference with the reamer, most times. Often there’s a lot of extra work to repair the damage caused by someone taking them apart with a hammer (trust you haven’t done that).

As you can see from my signature I have the gear to do it all, but it’s not my business. I had to do mine, and now I just do it so that CBs get back on the road. (I do charge of course, there’s a lot of time in a bad set) I’m more than happy to help you have a go at it. Send me an email and I’ll tell you anything you need to know.

Pages from the parts book attached.
Keep them on the road.
Cheers
Tony
