Help Out A Dubber

Jen rang from Warragul today, with a problem fuel-pump so I headed down to 'Help out a dubber' with some tools and the fuel pump off my squareback. Jen has a 36 Hp, which I discovered won't take a fuel pump from a 1600 DP.

Not to be outdone, I decided to pull the fuel pump off and apart to see what the problem was, with the constant banter of the friendly 'antiques' dealer from across the road mingling with the traffic noise of the main street behind me. :o

The fuel pump came out fine, and then the little levers inside it fell out into my hand. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the pivot pin had fallen out far enough to let the levers fall free. :(

I managed to get the levers right the second time I assembled it, then discovered the large spring sitting on the ground and had to pull the top off yet again!! Finally I managed to get it right and Bel and Jen are mobile and happy again.

Jen took some photos with my camera, so here they are....

Good work, Col! :-) I'm surprised you don't have a spare fuel pump on you... Richard did! :-) :-)

Thanks all. :) I actually posted here rather than in 'Help out a Dubber' for a couple of reasons:
1. I didn't want to clutter it up with general chit-chat,
2. To make people more aware of the 'Help out a Dubber' section, and
3. To show how simple it can be to make somebodies day!! It was about an hour from my place, but it was the perfect day for a cruise, and I had the sun behind me rather than in my eyes! :D

Andrew when Herbie was having his fuel problems and whipped out the spare pump I thought I should get one but unfortunately didn't but I will now for sure

Col is a bit of a legend the way he drops everything to help people out :thumb

Gee the photo with the post office in it does not show what a bustling town Drouin was on a Saturday arvo. By the time Col arrived I'd figured everyone in town knew about me presence. The girl in the milk bar kept asking how this were going as I got more change for the phone (ran out of charge on the mobile) and Denny the junk furniture guy kept me company until Col arrived :o He was very chatty, business was slow in the shop. Had to visit the little room so headed to the nearest hotel, bought a glass of red so I don't feel I'm using them for their facilities (sort of seems to be defeating the purpose of going there) watch an old Elvis movie while I had my drink and all eyes were on me, I figured they all knew who I was by now:D

Col arrives, music blasting throws open the back of the bus, gets the tools out and starts working, conversations continue e.g. Did you get the Bunny fence finished?:D

Col is great, and so is Heather for being so cool about my need for help with Bel.

Bel had been running so well, the fuel pump prob was so unexpected. We had actually stopped on the freeway about 2km out of Drouin, my mobile ran out of power as I was giving RACV my details. After about 1 hr of being by the road a young guy who was heading into Drouin stopped and got Bel going then followed me into Drouin to see I got there OK. Rang RACV, the guy checked the fuel system and told me it was the pump and that I'd need to be towed home etc. I rang Col up to see what he thought and he was happy to come and get us going so I was not stuck with her at home and not able to get her anywhere to be fixed.

Bel is looking sweet but Col pointed out a crack I have in the pan near the jack points which are bent up. Looks like Bel needs some staightening and welding done.

She is running like a dream but I will have to get spare parts to carry and learn about basic mechanics so that I can help myself a bit next time. Getting tools together slowly as I notice what is needed from watching others.
