Gearbox question

Hi guys. I have a standard IRS beetle box going into a buggy. Tyre size will most likely be 275/60/r15.

Will a 3 rib kombi box be a better option. I know they are stronger etc.. But the car won't have high hp. I'm more wondering about general drivability, ratios ect.

Thoughts?

Street buggy or offroad ? Absolutely go the 3 rib box if doing the offroad thing. Big tyres and not great hp with the stock irs box is not a great combo in my opinion.

Pretty much a street buggy. Are the ratios better?

If you have the irs box, try it first and see how it feels with the HP you have. The stock box , axles,cv's ect are quick and easy to fit. When you go the 3 rib box the axles have to cut and modified or you can just buy the after market ones. (you probably already know this). I have 130hp with a 3 rib box (until it breaks) with big arse tyres and is still good to drive on street / offroad. Higher ratio's would be nice if I was to drive to Perth though.
