make sure that you take care of it and keep it in its protective case . as it doesn't have a lens protection like a normal camera.

we got a back pak so you can see what going on.

http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/lcd-touch-bacpac

you can use them for more then just in te race car.

Dunno if the Hero3 is any better or not, but on Hero2 the internal mic is pretty frikken useless for motorsport stuff, so prolly going to want a powered external mic.

I got a Wifi Remote bacpac for mine... pretty sweet to stream to the app your iPhone to line up the shot, and then use the remote control to start recording etc. when get to the line.

Yeah - totally agree Daimo. I've got one of these on the way - they seem to get good reviews. Hopefully will arrive before next event.

Oh - and another tip is with the mounts... there can be a bit of movement in some quick release mechanisms. Trick is to just shim with a layer of duct tape to tighten the clearance up a bit.

Chris i have noticed your footage is allways crystal clear, what setting do you have your Go Pro on?
I have seen other footage were in the car is good but it,s way to bright outside and you can,t see anything.
I have also purchased the Bak Pac, now that is a must i reckon.

Hi Col

I'm new to GoPro cameras but I bought mine from a friend who runs Targa events at The Bike Shed Mortdale.

He gave me a tip, you need set the spot meter settings to "on" otherwise you get great detail inside but the outside appears over bright.

worked for me  poor mans go pro lol.

the sound is remarkably good considering.

Yeah if you mount the camera out of the wind (ie inside the car) like Steve did then sound with the skele case would be pretty good.

I prefer my cam mounted outside the car tho, and all I ever get is wind noise with both the skele and full case.

Wonder what Glen used for the sound on that run of his at Bathurst ???

plug in mic?

I like camera 1st person view in a car. So I shove it between the headrest and the seat in the daily but vw is a little harder to do that.

but you can always tape it with masking tape to the seat:rolleyes:

in the past (3 years ago when hard drive cameras were the go) I used my friends HD cam and it sucked in the car. every pot hole made it shut off to protect the HDD.
All I ever got from it was corrupt video files.

Hi

Not sure about hillclimbs or events in other states but your not allowed to run externally mounted cameras at Supersprints at eastern creek.

I prefer seeing the view from inside the car, you get a better perspective of whats happening with the driver.

Steve - sprints and stuff at Eastern Creek... are they run under CAMS or AASA ?

Most sup regs I've seen for CAMS events leave it up to the chief scruit, and so far not had any issues/questions with either lipstick cameras or gopros mounted externally.... I guess if you think about it, in an "incident" there's gonna be a lot more to worry about flying off of the exterior of the car than a little GoPro !!!

As for AASA events, well so far I'm yet to see them check more than noise levels !!!

:D

CAMS has supposedly been going to tighten up on things for years and limit cameras to a max of 100 grams unless bolted to the floor... but they haven't actually done it yet, and are still using a tech ruling from 2008 !!!

http://camsmanual.com.au/techdocs/T-401[1].pdf

For reference my GoPro Hero2 with a wifi bacpac and skele case weighs in at 191 grams, and remember reading somewhere that the "stewardscam" in V8 SuperTaxis is around the 300 gram mark...

Hi

Eastern Creek would be CAMS, apparently a few have come loose and nearly hit officials and spectators.

2 things i learnt is that if you need to replace your waterproof screen, just buy a new case.... i had a few stone chips after having mine strapped to a sprint car, so i thought i would just buy a replacement lens for it.... works fine in the rain and stuff, but if u take it deep under water, then it weeps a little... so i bought another one for that and now i just use this one in heavy dust conditions etc.... tip number two, if you want great sound, get an external mic and an extension cable, makes it sound really professional and eliminates wind noise so u can hear your engine better :)

inside with the skeleton case :tu:

When the roll bar eventually makes it way back in I'll mount it on the diagonal also. I recently took some film of the cruise up to woodford with it mounted outside (raining) and it's just not as good even when the weather is good it just whistles
