Fuel leaking beside air filter? Not sure what its called


Sorry about the title, I have no idea what this thing is called, lucky I have a photo!

Anyway I am leaking a sh*t load of fuel from this little joint thingy where the two fuel lines meet. I can tighten it but about a week later it is leaking again. Any ideas what I can do?

Banjo fitting.

Try new washers. The hose being vertical doesn't help as it acts like a spanner loosening off the bolt every time that the engine moves or when you go over a bump.




I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!:lol:

Oh ok, well I've done a google search on banjo fittings and cant find anything that looks like this :sniffle:

So if I clamp the hoses and unscrew this fitting, just replace the washers and tighten it back up. How should I have the hose, facing the back of the motor/facing down? Cheers for the into AA003 :tu:

How's the hose?? Is it cracked?? Don't over tighten it either, that can cause it to split.

Face it down if possible, or clip it to something on the engine (air filter etc.)
Get a better clamp also.

I probably isn't the hose if it is coming loose.
Try new washers.
Have a good look at it to make sure it isn't cracked.
I would be surprised if you can get enough torque on it in situ.
I like to take the carb and manifold off and use a socket to make sure it is a nice and snug fit

put the hose facing down if it doesn't put it under tension, or even where it 'wants' to sit without any load/tension. to replace the washers you'll need to remoe the itting to get them out to match the dimensions. try relocating first, should be no prob, do it up nice and firm.

Yeahhh not sure how to go about doing it real tight when half the bolt has been grinded off. What the f*ck hey, haha!

The washers look fine, no damage to them at all? Ill try relocating it so that the hoses face down and see how that goes. Thanks for all the help guys, I had no clue about this but I am learning ;)

Also is there a how to video or something on removing the carbs. Also something I am new to. I have tried undoing the large bolts on the bottom of the manifold but there is just no room to get tools in there :mad:

Well - there is your problem.
No way are you going to so that up snug
Try Rod Penrose, Alfa1750 or Carburettor Service Company and see if they have a replacement.

Take the filter tops off and get some extensions for your socket with a wobble end.
MUCH easier if you take your engine lid off and work down

It seems to be fixed now, took part of the carby off and tightened the banjo thing with the fuel lines pointed down. Ill see how it goes over the next week or so. Seems like its fixed for now or at least until I order a new part :tu:

Hi

That hose clamp is way to big, it can crush the hose to an incorrect shape.

Am I the only one who thinks tha fitting is gonna hit the side of the engine bay all the time ???

That'll be why it's coming loose - really need to get some more clearance in there methinks.

If it is constantly hitting a cracked intake manifold could be the next thing to crop up...

No your not the only one Sides, but limited tools/experience make even a simple job that much harder.

Oh dear

Has it been ground off to give clearance or just ground itself from rubbing so much!

Please realize the high chance of fire each time it begins to leak and fix it properly ASAP! If you don't already carry a decent fire extinguisher, make a shop to buy one from the destination on your first test run

Thanks heaps guys for the help. It seems to be fixed now and isn't leaking anymore. The next stop is getting a fire extinguisher. Thanks again everyone!
