2000 vw polo issues

Hey all

I have a 2000 vw polo 1.4 manual and it's developed a problem that no one seems to be able to work out so I thought I would throw it out here and cross my fingers some one know what it mite be..

It starts and runs great for about 15 minutes then the dash cuts out and the car stalls. It then won't restart for a fair while. When it does once again it runs fine for about 15 minutes then dash goes and it stops...

Had a mechanic put a scan tool on it and it showed nothing and he has been over it an cant find anything wrong. He is quite sure it's electrical but really has no idea what it mite be,

It has been mentioned that there is a relay someone where around the steering column that sends signals to the dash and ecu that mite be on the blink but he couldn't find it so not sure.

Any ideas???

Cheers

Steff...

In the 1990s VW sourced some electrical items from Italy, and these are now giving trouble. This sounds like the problem I had with my '95 Golf, which also ran fine then cut out and couldn't be started for a while - then ran fine again.

It turned out to be the crank angle sensor, which VW sourced from Italy (!) It worked fine until it got hot, when it when it would then fail and the car wouldn't start. Once it cooled down, the car would start again. Normally it would not show an error code, as it was fine and only fail when hot. Once it was replaced by a German one, it has been fine. I also had the power supply relay replaced, as it was also apparently Italian-sourced and could give the same intermittent problem.

As the dash also cuts out, I'd replace the power supply relay (30). Cheap and easy to do.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!
