Grinding Clutch when pedal engaged. Help!!

So tonight I pulled out of a driveway and went through the first couple of gears and then I think It was third or fourth (happened so quick can't rememeber) and out of nowhere when I was changing gear, I hear this loud grinding noise! so I had to roll over to the side.

Then I attempted to start the car. Grinds when foot is on the clutch.

Works fine in neutral and can put into gear when the engine isn't running although once the engine is going and you go to put your foot on the clutch, it grinds really bad and you can't even change gear or anything.
We ended up towing it back to my sisters place (luckily I was only about 5 minutes away) Help! help!

I haven't tried reverse and didn't think to do that until after I left my sisters place.

mate sounds like your through out bearing has failed you will need to remove your engine to inspect and change out the bearing may also need a new clutch if it has damaged the pressure plate

I'm with bug68m ,sounds like the throw-out bearing has lost a clip and fallen off the arms ,either that or the ends of the arms have bent away

Bearing around $50 (good quality). there are two styles, early and late. May also be the throw out fork that operates the bearing

I went and got a trolley jack and stands for taking out the engine.. and I've never done this before but would rather spend the money on tools and learn something, than pay someone else to do it and not learn anything haha (and an excuse to buy some tools!)

Ive been looking at different clutch kits and singular parts but not entirely sure whats the best to look for. Would it be better to pull the engine out first and look at the clutch I have? (thats probably a good idea )

Any recommendations? are any of these any good or would it be better to buy them all seperately or in a kit?
Pretty general questions but I'm relatively new to engine work... only ever done basics like carbourettor/fule pump etc..

thanks Josh

Josh , good to see you having a go yourself , if unsure just take a momoment to think about it and above all else make sure YOU and the car are safe when the car is jacked up to remove the motor ie , jack stands firmly supporting the car , keeping in mind that the height that you get the rear of the car lifted to and sitting on the jack stands must be at least the height of the sump to top of fan shroud height + the jack height .
The only other simple thing that gets a few people is make sure you have removed your fan belt as mid removal with it still fitted will qickley become a nightmare
