Hi
I was with my son when he was being harassed by the popo, they tried to defect him for not having an H pattern on his gearknob, I had asked my RTA
engineer about this only weeks before, he said it was bogus I told the popo this and he backed down.

I think that the knob may have been the roadworthy inspector.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

In NSW this year they brought in a law that you must give way to pedestrians when turniing into a street.

The horn law is a good law also. Why should I be annoyed by dickheads in the middle of the night.
It sounds like you are part of the me generation.
| I am GenX (Born in 77). What surprises me is that you grew up in the 60's and don't feel that all these silly rules and laws are
encroaching on our civil liberties?? Why should your generation be the only one to experience freedom?

| Perfect example of what i am talking about, does this rule apply to heavy vehicles also? God knows that its easier to stop a semi
than to look left and right before crossing the road.

The way I see it, the roads don't belong to me. They belong to someone else and they say I can use them if I pay my annual fees to the road owners
and follow the rules that are set by the road owners. If I ever decide I have a problem with following the same rules as everyone else who pays their
fees, then maybe I'll just start catching the bus or train. Or I suppose I could just bitch and whine about my freedom being stripped from me because
I'm not allowed to do what I want when I want to like a spoilt little brat.

Oh i know about this one, and i believe it was introduced to prevent clowns hanging out of car windows (which actually makes sense). I had one of my
cop mates try explain that people have had their limbs torn off in this way, to which I responded that there have been more people with limbs torn off
while all their extremities were within the car.
Today, it appears that everyone wants to bubble wrap every detail of our lives, to protect us from all these really dangerous things that could kill
us. Every day i see more and more regulation of the silliest little detail. For example, did you know its actually illegal to beep your horn without a
reason... no i am serious. They tried introducing a law to ban people from using iPods when crossing the road (really???). By doing this, we have
established a culture of fear, that parents are scared to let their kids out of house. God help us if a child was to move away from the Nintendo and
climb a tree... they could fall and hurt themselves. Today, even the stupidest little thing can have a law attached to it, to protect us from
ourselves. What a load of revenue raising BS!
Its these little liberties, like hanging your arm out a window on a warm day that i enjoy. I have concluded that by punishing us for lots of little
things, regulating every little detail of our lives, we will be less inclined to question the big decisions that really matter. Arm out the window
fines, speeding fines, parking fines... before you know it there will be smoking in car fines. Where does it end?
Its unfortunate that we havent got a healthy culture of protest in Australia, imagine this scenario... highly unlikely!

maybe if they didn't have laws to protect people over stupid stuff then we wouldn't have a generation(degeneration) of dumb s#its and the population
would be a lot less.
I recon dumb people should be allowed to kill them selves from there own stupidity. It would solve a lot of world problems

Years ago was told by a plain clothes dude that I needed a permit for the extractors on my Sandman panelvan. You keep hearing that coppers must have
heard every excuse under the sun but what about all the fantasy shit that has been told to the general population by them

There is already a law against smoking in a vehicle, at least when children are in the car, and fair enough too I reckon.

Are the police qualified to make judgement on parts of cars that are road worthy ???
Mechanics are.... what training do the people that enforce the fines have other than basic police training???

Yes they are. They receive training when they do their driver training (QLD).

I don't think that they are taught about Empi shifters etc.
They probably only spend a very brief amount of time on roadworthy checking.
