Fantastic bus mate, credit to you! We are embarking on a 71DC resto along very similar lines (Porsche 3.2 engine with 2L box, Red9Design front end, bigger brakes and other upgrades). I might shoot you a PM with some questions if cool (re. flywheel etc).
Cheers
Al

Well this is a bit of a resurrection, but I have taken everyone's advice and finally shipped my kombi bus over :starhit:. It arrived in April, but with the hassle of being forced out of our rental due to the landlord wishing to renovate and move in, getting it all VASS approved and registered has gone onto the back burner.

Well, we have now moved and started prepping the kombi for visit to engineers. It wasn't long before I reached my first massive hurdle. I removed the lower rocker covers to set the valves, only to find a snapped headstud on the exhaust side of no.6! LIVID! This can only mean one thing.... engine rebuild is required. With historical lower compression on no.2 I will first start with full compression test and leak down test to see if I still have compression issues with no.2 and whether I've now got lower compression on no.6.

In the meantime I am tossing up whether its worth getting a temporary replacement engine (a VW) to at least get the kombi on the road, while I sort out the Porsche engine. That way I wont be rushed into rebuilding the engine just to get the thing registered.

I know that I will require a VASS anyway as its an import, but it will mean just getting the brakes signed off first, then once the porsche engine is rebuilt, getting it engineered for the porsche engine later....and probably with the fitment of my red9design front wishbone setup ;-)

Anyways, as and when things occur, I'll document them in this thread for anyone interested.

You didnt expect your mate not to take it for a rap did you? He did have it in his garage for 4 years LOL!

Well with a Kombi Box just bang a VW motor for the meantime and get it out in the sun mate.
