091 Rebuild or what to do?
Haven't posted much before, but here goes...
Things I have:
76 Bay with a bit of rust
virtually new engine
seized 091 gearbox (long story)
caravelle transmission, recently rebuilt ('front' side shifting)
things I want:
A rust free 76 bay that I can drive.
Is that too much to ask?
I know the nosecone _can_ be swapped, but it seems to require a lot of specialised tools. I have the basics, but I don't have gear pullers, shift
fork adjusters, etc.
I'm also not sure if the parts that have seized in the gearbox are ones I would need to do the swap. If a gearbox is seized (as in, wheels no turn,
car skid to stop), what is the most likely part to have failed?
1. Is is worth trying to do the swap?
2. Is there anyone in the Townsville region who can lend some advice/suggestions/time to work out the problem?
3. Somehow (long story!) the part that links the steering box to the front wheel hubs is broken (steering damper?). It looks a bit like a shock
absorber. Where might I find one of these?

Is the caravell box a four speed though or a 5 ,
Get in contact with " Smiley " on here as he is Yeppoon and knows his way around the conversion of those 2 boxs and is currentley out of work so
could probbley help you out with a few jobs , plus he is not bad on rust repairs either .

Its a four speed - the front shifting type that is an 091 internally with a different nosecone.
Thanks for the advice guys, I'll see what I can find when I head down to Brissie...

You don't need any special tools to sort this out. Gear puller - big mofo flat blade. Gear pusher - hammer. Undo the nuts that hold the nose on and
carefully pull him off. What's under there is pretty straight forward.
So basically you want to be in neutral
NEUTRAL
IN GEAR
IN GEAR

With ur box in neutral you can now reassemble ur gear selector
Easy
All there is to do from here is reinsert hockey stick into gear selector ball socket bushing and re-torque the nose cone. I'd get a new gasket or
make one with gasket paper and a razor blade.

Oh this is the gear selector ball socket gizmodo (just found the little squirt). Inspect for wear. If its loose inside the selector socket I would
track one down and replace it as this will affect shift quality.

Sweet. Thanks for the guide - photos of the inside of the nosecone are just what I was looking for.
I'll see how I go over the next couple weeks, should be able to find some time to sort it out.
