New vw cb for resto

Hi all
Love the cb section
They are such an awsome car
New to the forum, have joined to get some knowledge and help with our current resto and future projects to come
Me and dad are in the process of fully restoring this gem.
It's a 67 cb that is not yet on the register KO 646. Would love some information on it if some feels free to give us some. Anything you have could and would make a big help! It's been up in the shed for 20 years now and it was time to get it down and start it. We assume the car is original colour, and we think original floor pan but no engine.
Give us your thoughts and help please
Thanks jake

Great news to see another CB being restored.

The experts will soon tell you what you need to know...

I don't think red was an original colour...
I've only ever seen light green ones...

it looks in good condition ... many are not...

cheers

Thanks lee

Yeah she isn't to bad, being up there in the shed has kept it pretty good. The rust is mainly in the heater Channels and front firewall.

Interesting about the red, I thought it might be original from what I have read. I have read that there was beige, green and red. I'm sure that someone will know.

Very nice looking body you have! Your floor pan is not correct for your CB as the correct pans don't have heater knobs next to the gear stick. But you weld that up and its much the same.

do you have all the correct front end and rear end etc?

Thank you bug boy, it has lots of potential!
Right well we will weld up that heater knob then!
It has a beetle KLP front and kombi rear with reduction hubs which we plan to take out for the time being. And keep if we want it original again.

So even if 67 is stamped into a plate it is still a 68 is that correct 11cab?

Car must be painted then, either way we are probably going to leave it red as that's what we started with :)

I will get up a picture of it 20 years ago when my dad first got it, just need to find the scanner.

Thank you all for the friendly welcome

VW's production years start in the previous August. So August 67 production date is a 68

Got ya!

Just looking at KO 782
Saw it at the show at heritage park it's a beauty.

I was just wondering about the rear seat as it said in the other topic that its original, we would love a rear seat for ours. Would it be very hard to make one up off measuring that one 11cab? It sounds like they are very rare

I have a few rear seats that we reproduced a few years ago. i'll be building one up soon and will post pictures. All the other frames will be sold off here on this forum.

Your rear end you say is a kombi one? Have you checked to see that it is infact a CB rear end as the look a like.
Best put some pictures up and you will soon find out.

I often wondered what happened to this CB. I remember Todd Kidther (?) driving it around Nambour while he owned Browns Autobahn.

Good luck and good to see another resurrection.

okay cool, im sure it will get onto the register at some point.

measurements would be good of there is no other option haha.

so you would have a rear seat that is the same as original that we would get off you bugboy? it you do it would be great and we would love to get one if that's possible?

rear end looks like this, pretty sure its the right one. correct me if im wrong.

im unsure who my dad bought if off all I know is that it was sitting in a backyard for awhile before he got it. looking forward to it going back to its former glory that's for sure!

KO 646

Jake,
I have taken all details and pictures to get your CB added to the Register. I will be doing the update over the next couple of weeks.
A few comments- Paprika Red was an original CB colour but no where near as popular as the Savannah Beige or Dark Bronze Green.
You vehicle has been painted as I don't think the colour is Paprika Red as it is a tad to red to match the original Paprika Red that came out on CBs and also imported Ghias.
The pan is not original CB as pointed out by several of the guys and it should be grey in colour ( I have the mixing codes but no name) and not the red colour as seen in the photo.
The photos of the front and rear end look CB from what I can see. It was not unusual for folks to move the front and rear ends to a Beetle pan once the CB was worse for wear.
Does this vehicle have a motor. An original CB motor would commence with the #- F125xxxx and they are hard to come by. I have been looking for sometime for an original F125 series motor.
Would be interested to know if the vehicle has an ID plate with the Chassis Number stamped on it. You can find the plate on the firewall, riveted underneath speed area.

According to my records your CB would have come off the production line in June 1968 as one of the 114 vehicles produced and completed during the month of June.

Let me know if I can help further,

thank you Mr Moore.
interesting about the colour, must have been beige originally then I would say.
unfortunately the vehicle has no motor so nothing there.
my dad has the plate at work, I shall get the chassis # in the morning for you.
nice bit of info there about it being completed in june thank you.

just wondering how we could go about getting some more info on the car in general and etc if youd be so kind to help. I have seen some pictures of parts books and other stuff in the forum, can you help there??any info is great as its impossible to find!! and its always nice to have stuff like that and helps out a lot in a resto.

Hi Jake, great project you have ahead, if I can be of assistance, feel free to give me a call on 0439696699. Although I am on Brisbane Northside, I can always send photos and you are welcome to drop in and have a peak at 782 and 133 both with rear seats. Color matching rubber bits and some rust repair sections to copy etc, Bill is a wealth of knowledge and was of great help with mine, particularly with the finishing off bits. Cheers Fraser

a small update

so the ckd country buggy arrived the other week...could almost be a kit...and oh my!!:crazy: couldnt contain myself..pretty much every outer panel bar the bonnet and boot

Thanks to John who has persisted with me to get panels that will fit perfectly and are bang on with original ridges and all.

the body is going to be straight as an arrow now without a drop of rust or filler

Boy, did I miss this one here on the forum a couple of years ago!
Looks you started with one that was in pretty decent shape and has great potential.
If you have body panels from cbjohn, you are going to have a killer resto.
John is The CB Body Panel King!

Keep us up to date, and keep those pictures coming. :!: :tu:
