Rusty and used parts - what's worth keeping/selling and what to scrap?
So I have a big pile of vw parts. A lot of it is the kind of stuff I would not think would be likely to be reused unless you pulled them from your own
engine but I'd like some opinions please. What is worth selling and what is just scrap?
The things in question are:
Used pushrods
Used conrods
Used cam shafts with minor surface rust
Used crank shafts with minor surface rust
Flywheels with minor to major surface rust
Can the last 3 be machined so as to be usable and is it worthwhile compared to replacing them?
I don't want to bother selling junk but hate the thought of scrapping one thing good.

The flywheels are good to.attach to trolly jacks to make them safer when dropping an engine if it helps.

Rusty pushrods are junk.
Rusty conrods can be machined IF they are forged and really hard to get ie. like rare Okrasa widget thingys.
The rest can be re-used, especially the flywheels and cranks. A lot of people would much prefer welding and then machining an OEM forged VW 1045 crank
to buying a shiny billet 4340 crank, even if it costs more, people like DPR........and me!
If I was over there I would pick them up if you like!

Apart from pushrods, I mean someone 'may' want them, the rest is useable. Conrods can be easily cleaned on a wire wheel bench grinder and a bit of
400 wet n dry on the bearing saddles.
rest may just need a polish to clean/measure and then see if needs grinding

flywheel in 12v form can be sold, generally everything else no ones wants.
I had good crank that measured within spec, no one wanted even for 25 buck. to the scrap they went Also had perfect cam and rods too, same fate.

Agree, save 12 volt flywheels if not badly rusted, O ring 6 volt ones are also worth saving, rusty cranks, rods, cams, into the dumpster they go, no
one wants them.

Dunno why Aussies don't want good useable parts. In UK they would go like hotcakes. S'pose if building an engine weren't so expensive here or
people didn't farm it out to 'professionals' then there'd be a larger market for used engine parts. Shame as a waste of perfectly good parts.
