12v conversion parts wanted
Hey all
I am relatively new to aussieveedubbers, i am 15 and own a 67 standard beetle. ive had it for around 6 months and i have had it mechanically checked
and the rusy repaired. i am now looking at converting it to 12v.
So I guess I'd be looking for :
12v generator or alternator
12v regulator
12v starter
12v flasher relay
12v flay wheel
If anyone is selling any of these parts please let me know and any advise or tips on how to do it would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Tom

your location would help
u may keep using a 6vlt starter for now as the 12 are a different pinion...cheaper than flywheel conversion
I have all the globes and relay too
I am near Ipswich
a coil also and poss relay
for the gen u need a different stand an alternator may fit the stand but I have a genny avail
want any vw bits old but like me, Made in Germany!!!

Hey Tom, Good to see a young bloke choosing a VW as a first car.
Regarding the Starter and Flywheel:
Leave the Flywheel as is. Use the same Starter Motor but change the Starter Solenoid only to a 12 volt.
This method has been done many times and has proved very reliable, easy and cheaper.
When you get a 12 volt Battery, make sure that it is not too high to clear the seat.
You should look into connecting a resistor in your Wiper circuit - roughly 4 or 5 Ω, 20 Watt ceramic - stops the wipers from taking off.
Change all of the lamps in the car to 12v. The Coil, the Carby (automatic choke), Fuel tank sender/gauge. (Some one else will chime in details for
this).
List what city you are in - I'm sure some of the old guys on here will give the the odd part.
Enjoy your project, I'm sure that you will have plenty of years of fun in your Dub.
Regs, Lance.

The: "roughly 4 or 5 Ω, 20 Watt ceramic"....should read..."roughly 4 or 5 OHMS, 20 watts, ceramic" ...this site doesn't like my ohms
sign.
Lance.
