removing 66 beetle steering column


I want to take my steering column out so i can remove the body of my 66 beetle. Do i have to take the steering wheel off? -if so what else- i have removed the petrol tank to undo the front bolts-=

Undo the flexible coupling at the steering box,the column should then slide up enough to lift the body.

If the couplers 2 bolts to the steering shaft coupling are removed then body should just lift straight up. If in doubt tho pull the steering wheel up and use a mole grip on the steering shaft to keep it raised outta the way :)

is it hard to completely remove the steering wheel and shaft because i am selling the body and keeping the parts?

No it isn't hard,undo the flange at the top of the coupling,release the wires for the horn and blinker switch undo the 2 bolts on the column bracket and pull the column upwards and it will slip out of the rubber seal.
