Taking bets on whether this will fire up...
Hey guys I want to try and get this old 1200 engine started, anything I need to do before I try to turn her over and try to make it start & run?
ideas?
It hasn't been run in a long time, but does turn over by hand.

Make sure there's oil in it, prime the fuel pump and carby, set your timing, clean the plugs and points and fire it up.
Fingers crossed.

I betcha the valve springs have no tension left, 1/2 dozen redbacks run screaming from every little hole you can think of, the dizzy is locked up
solid, and the carb has more red dirt than a footy field in the Goldfields.............ad the bloody thing runs like a top!

Yep got new oil, and it stays in there too. I'll figure out the other things tomorrow and give it a burl.
Ahh just noticed its missing the capacitor so there'll be no spark (I think called a 'coil' by auto electricians).
Was thinking I could check compression and valve clearances too.

Generator belt to keep the spark going, or have a battery connected.

I had a go today, got the engine bolted in and hooked up a battery with jumper leads so I can turn it over with the key.
Trouble is it doesn't turn over very quickly at all, unless all the spark plugs are out. Maybe the jumper leads aren't heavy enough? On a positive
note it turns over and has oil pressure.
Also the dizzy can spin around freely and I can pull it out of the block easily by hand its not secured well what's up with that?

having a close look at it I can't see a dizzy clamp. so it will need a clamp and the timing done
where are you at?

Yeah I think you're right, that would explain the unused stud behind the dizzy.
Oh and I used search on this forum to find why the starter is cranking slow & it's probly because it needs a new starter bushing so I will get a
bushing & a clamp tomorrow and see how that goes. Might get some battery cable too, and clean up the terminals too.
I'm in Campbelltown NSW.

If the dizzy pulls out that easy then could also mean the 'O' ring is past it. Check and see if a new ones needed cos it'll pee oil quite nicely

Sorry I didn't get a video, but here's a picture of the progress.
Not too impressive, just happy to be getting started on this project. I'm just seeing what Ive got to work with first.
It's gonna be stock as a rock when it hits the streets, and maybe a bit ratty.
