What spares to carry?

Hi Dubbers!

After a close shave with our accelerator cable in the middle of nowhere, I thought we best carry a few parts that may be hard to come by quickly in far flung parts of Victoria. We have a newly rebuilt aircooled 2lt in an '82 camper.
Your suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
J

I ran a survey on this some time ago, which I reprint below. The key is to think about the things which are specialised to the camper and unlikely to be available in West Woop-Woop, e.g. ignition points, accelerator cable, clutch cable and alternator belt. Changing the alternator belt requires a special key on the T IV engines. For air-cooled engines, valve clearances need attention more often than normal, so a pair of tappet cover gaskets, a set of feeler gauges. Much of the rest is generic, e.g. coils, plugs etc. are widely available.

Here's the survey:

This section just allows you to see a list of what's on board peoples' Kombis.

What do you have to have on board to make your trip complete? We're interested in your tools, spare parts, camping gear, comfort items, your Abba cassettes.

You can post your list at the end of this page and it will get posted the next day or thereabouts; your mileage may vary.
