Fossil,
AVD was initially created by Jim and Brad at Ezyboard. Once Ezyboard had done us over with stupid ads and other restrictions, I offered to help. I
installed XMB at my then Pair hosting account, and have run the forum ever since at various hosters continuously since 2002. I have backups dating
back to 2006, and helped build the forum software that runs this site.
Jim is still a super admin here, but for whatever reason doesn't pop in regularly, and I haven't seen Brad around for a long time.
I like to maintain good relations with all the other VW forums and all the clubs as we are a small niche in Australia. We all love Volkswagens. All
the merrier is my view. And realistically, this thread is not about any other forum, I want this place to be a fun destination for you all. And that
means from time to time we re-evaluate our rules / codes of conduct, and make sure we're still doing great things.
thanks
Andrew

Personally I think we currently have the right amount of detail required in most cases, I believe in the case of off site sales it should be more than
just a pasted link, a description and some contact detail would greatly help as how hard is it to cut and paste them from the other website you have
it on.

Barls, people post links to things they find on eBay that others may be interested in, it's not necessarily people selling their own stuff on eBay
and posting the link.
What difference does it make if the details are in the link, rather than doubling up the information on the thread created. It's someone elses
details and contact number you are pasting, not your own, those interested will click on it and open the link up.

Seriously! why is having a ebay and other sites section a bad idea and how does it hurt anyone?
Just about every other car forum in the whole Flying Duck / pharked ing world has it.

i had a post awhile ago about semi auto stuff that i was quite happy to give to people who wanted or needed them but i wasnt gunna spend my time to
advertise every last piece and it got removed, sometimes rules should have exceptions! maybe it was my fault that i didnt explain it properly,
however isnt it "buyer beware"

I dont think we should compare to melburg luft or dsk
Not every one can go one those forums and have a look
They are effectively private forums where as AVD is fully public
We get quite a few drop ins here and their first and only post is a for sale and they do not list anything that is "required"
I like the fact that AVD is open and free.
I dont think it hurts to abide by our rules for the benefits offered
We have put up a poll on this topis - PLEASE vote and majority wins

Hi Andrew,
I'm not to fussed on the selling options, so Poll 1)A, Poll 2)A, Poll 3)B is fine.
With poll 2, relaxing this will aid people doing a "shed clear out", some stuff is not worth putting a price on, and can change hands for free, let
fellow members get first access to that rather than the local tip.
You did however mention about business and advertising. I think it would be great to have a section to list businesses, and a little detail about
them,
(Location, new or used parts, services they offer and what era they cover etc). Oh, and best way to contact them!!!
Perhaps managed by MODS but AVD members can ask to have a business they have delt with listed.
Keep up the great work

Hi Andrew I think all adds with expression of interest and offers should not be allowed ALL adds must contain a price , it saves everybody wasting
time making the same enquiries and save the sellers time also its pretty simple if you want to sell something you must know how much you want for it !
Links to other sites with members stuff for sale are ok again it just saves you time and we all want top dollar for our crap so sometimes its better
to have a wider audience especially when selling rare or hard to get crap.

I'm confused?
Should we be embarrassed? Or you?
No one is forcing Melburg LUFT down anyone's throat?
We accept new members regularly. We are one of the most active forums and pro-active groups in the VW community. Does AVD, DSK, or KC have regular
monthly meets, that are attended in mass?
Every forum has their place in the Aussie VW community, and I'd like to think I'm an active member of them all.
The LUFT is my forum of choice and the one that inspires and motivates me the most, that is nothing for me to feel embarrassed about!
Why are we having to constantly defend ourselves? I'm sorry you don't like us but that's really not our problem. The members of the LUFT are
obviously happy to be there?
You, sir, should be embarrassed for being so judgmental about something you clearly know nothing about.
