Accelerator cable broken - stranded Maroochydore

Having just dropped my partner off at work and clad only in pyjamas I was horrified when, as about to pull away, the gas pedal of my 72 beetle fell limply to the floor.
After a quick inspection I have established that the cable is still attached at both ends but moves freely when pulled.
Both my mechanical knowledge and my funds are not as plentiful as I would like and I must transport my partner to and from appointments from 3pm, with this in mind if anybody has any suggestions I would be incredibly interested to hear them.
Cheers
Sam

Replace the cable........takes about 10mins to do. ;)

or

Increase the idle on the motor to 2500rpm by turning the idle screw and just drive it like that to get you out of trouble :dork:

I have called around to source a cable with no joy. Matt up at lake McDonald may have one, but unfortunatly I have no way of getting it. I am concerned that even increasing the idle may be beyond my limited ability but desperate times.. I will certainly give it a go, thanks.

There was a mechanic at Budrim but he has closed down, the only other place you will get a cable today is at Brown autobahn at Nambour, he is oposite the state school heading north out off town.

Dropped them a line, left a message. Possibly on holiday. Thanks. I will tying to exhaust all options before opening the deck lid to delay the resulting catastrophe.

Thanks, I think this might force me to, have just had a very helpful conversation and have been given simple instructions regarding the reconnection of my two peices of cable, I am yet to see the damage. About to attempt removal of the tube surrounding the cable, sounds easy enough :/

It is always a good idea to carry a spare clutch and accelerator cable in the car for such events.

That sounds like a very very good idea. The cable has now been sufficiently bodged and I am back on the road, for now. Thanks for all your help, I was worried I would have to resort to a peice of string through the window for a second.
