VW are so alien to me

So somehow I read a few Beetle build threads on other forums, found my way here, been trolling for weeks looking at builds. I want to eventually build up a Beetle myself now!

As I already have a few projects on the go right now, I'm thinking I will start by buying a Beetle engine and rebuild that myself. Then when I find a shell to restore it will be ready to go.

What is the going rate for an old 1300/1600cc motor? Do any Brisbane based members have a spare motor kicking about?

Thanks

Alex

In my experience for 1600:

Tends to be that busted/motors needing rebuild are anywhere between $100 to $200... (whole lot could be suitable for the tip however)

'Supposably' running engines with little history go for $400 to $500. (High risk unless can get official 'running' demonstration)

Working ones mounted in cars for demo with history/receipts anywhere between $750 to $1000.

this is for bog stock.

If you are really lucky, you can score a freebie! somepeople give running ones away to good homes.

New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!

Cool thanks!

There doesn't seem to be many motors listed in the classifieds on here. Is there any other good spots to find them?

Hi mate

As much as I'd love to....I already have 2 cars being worked on under the house, and over-stocked with parts from both. There is just physically no room for another car.

Unless you want to trade for an E30 BMW race car shell? ;)
