Good quality parts eh?

I tried to find the original indicator assemblies, but not happening from where I live. So I decided to take a chance on some aftermarket replacements marketed as "good quality".
*sigh*
There goes that $50 before freight I spose.

This is after I ground down 6mm from the centre of each side of the assembly, plastic lens and chrome frame, to make a gentle curve to follow the top of the guard, and I also had to spot-weld the tin plate globe holder to hold the bolt in (coz it was loose.......), and then take 2mm off each side of the globe mount to fit inside the lens so it seals the rubber gasket to the guard top evenly.

:crazy::crazy::crazy:

Good for little box trailers on the weekend though. VW Parts HQ still had 2 left if you need a towbar kit, and they were only $310inc.........

Engine bay wiring

Plan is to fit a Deutsch plug for all the wiring going to the engine (apart from the big Gen +).

I haven't added any photos for a while, so here goes for anyone still looking occasionally........

Thanks to Brad at Bus'n'Bug for the headliner, and giving me the confidence to have a go. I will probably replace some of the lower sections in the future (a sad story involving 3 tries with the wrong glues, lots of acetone for cleaning so nothing ever sticks any more, no experience whatsoever, etc, etc ), but by the time the main top piece was done I was starting to get my crap together.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc458/MODNROD/VW/P1040298_zpskz3na69f.jpg

I like the colour plan with the planned carpeting.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc458/MODNROD/VW/P1040306_zpsyqj74p1z.jpg

And another pic of the front luggage area.

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc458/MODNROD/VW/P1040311_zpst10dqwdi.jpg

All the carpet pieces are off getting overlocked and edged at my local (well, 200km away, close enough!) auto trimmers.

When you pull this stuff apart you get crap all the way up to your armpits it seems.

Putting it all back in again is MUCH nicer.

oh yeah, and I'm still weighing stuff (stock reground lifters, CB lightweights came in at 75g each as a comparison).......

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc458/MODNROD/VW/P1040284_zpshlwt8ypd.jpg

.......still can't decide whether to use THIS sensible really nice mild torque cam which I've already used on another engine years ago, or a bigger one to spin it up a bit (which I probably shouldn't, but probably will)

http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc458/MODNROD/VW/Schneider%2027064_zpsbcoykgx5.jpg

........and finally, I changed my mind on the colour for this 1600.
Again! :D

Gday Yogie.

It's nearly ready to go man. When it drives off down the road then I'll get another one and start all over again for the next 5 years.
:tu:
I already have one in a shed covered in crap and chaff just waiting.

Unfortunately though, even though I'm only 8% into my limit for free sharing with Photobucket, as of today they want $400 p.a. for me to share my photos from now on. As they say.........."This thread is useless without pics"...........but I generally respond adversely to blackmail.

I enjoyed sharing them up until now though.
Have a good one everyone.
