non vw my first car and the reunion
this is a good story that i can tell my kids in years to come
in 2008 i was looking for my first car and came across it in the trading post
it was 1 1985 929 hbes that had one owner i went to his house he wanted $900 and
it had a portfolio of when he had it from new with the original receipt and receipts what he had done to it over the years he owned i talked him down
to $500 and when i was driving it away he was crying
i felt bad i had it till i got my p plates and forgot to check the water in the radiator and warped the head
i was upset cause i couldn't find one in Australia and was working for $45 each Sunday and couldn't afford
to do an engine replacement so i put it up on ebay selling it for around $900
as years went on i kept thinking what ever happened with it and seen it running and diving around once and made my week and since then i have never
been happy with my cars brought and sold over 16 cars
and seen my old 929 on gumtree last week and rang him yesterday thinking it would be sold since the add for the 929 was from last November and would
you believe it was still for sale
he wanted $1500 and talked him down to $750 cash there and then and got my first car i ever owned
back i couldn't believe it i have it back after all these years and it even has a 20000k replacement engine
with the receipts but it does need a lil tlc i am sanding it back this weekend and doing a respray
and tracking down the part but i love this car all the memories and the history it cant get much better than this
thanks for reading everyone

Nice find!
Is the replacement engine the proper 2L turbo version? I've always loved the look of these cars when they are sporting the fender mirrors. Also,
it's brilliant that the stock wheels are still on it!
Congratulations on getting her back just treat her right this time

Love stories like that.
My first non VW was a 74 TA22 Celica I bought about 12-13 years ago so I didnt have to use the bug as a daily.
I sold it in 2005 as typical 70s Toyota I was sick of fixing rust every year for rego, kicking myself now as I would love to build another and they
are hard cars to find.
Every time I see one in the area I suss out if its my old one, I lost track of it after the guy I sold it to blew up the engine and sold it.

Mazda 929 hey?
They go really well with a triple rotor in them!
Cool story.
I still have my first bike, a green/silver 1973 Honda CB350 twin.
I bought it when it was 8 years old with under 20K miles.

Love those "still got my first" stories, here's mine.
I've still got my first wife, first child (and second), first VW (I call the buggy a VW even if some unkind people don't), first set of sockets and
ring spanners, thats about it I think.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

Ha modnrod I was just going to comment that there is a white (last I saw it many moons ago) 929 / jc Cosmo over here with a 20b in it. Saw it at a
hill climb in Northam once and the 150m long black lines it left off the start line left a good impression

My THIRD car was a JC Cosmo/Luce 4 door. Jap import with the 12a turbo. Nice white colour with those same telephone dial wheels. It was my first
'proper car' with aircon, power steer etc after the Mark 2 Escort (which ended up with a Cosworth Sierra turbo motor) and the RX3 Coupe (which ended
up with a 12a turbo motor in it).
I loved that Mazda, it was so modern, comfy and reliable. It then got the 12a rebuilt with extend port, semi lightened flywheel, cabin adjustable
boost and free flowing exhaust. Best of 15.1 at Ravenswood if I remember correctly which wasn't too bad for a big luxo barge.
After that I ended up with boring company cars like V6 Magna and V6 Commodores. Ugh.
So nice to see your love for the Mazda and restoring it to former glory.

lol, those were different times back then.
I got mine in 2000 or 2001? might be china made but not sure because china crap wasn't all that common back then.
At that time, computer parts were being made mostly in Japan and Malaysia so I am thinking it could be Taiwanese or similar for the socket set.
my sidchome set is Taiwanese and its pretty damn good for the price, just as strong as the old school oz made ones but nicer finish. down sides are
the ratchet mechanism for the 3/8 and 1/2 are not as positive lock and are sensitive to slipping when the button is lightly touched.
The black plastic handle also easy come off. But I'll soon fix that with some sikaflex.
At least the 1/4 ratchet is shite loads better than the old oz ones. I lost count how many old 1/4 sidchrome ratchets stopped ratcheting for me.

Haha, like Joel, my first non-VW was a TA22 Celica, but a 71. We put a 2TG twin cam motor in it. When we stripped it back for a re-paint we found so
much chassis rust it needed to go immediately after the paint was dry.
The funniest part was travelling to Japan in 1993 when I owned it. There was car mag that was out at the time with the history of Celica's. I was
talking to some of the Japanese students I was hanging around with telling them I had a Celica. We made our way through the years and they couldn't
believe I had one so old as they typically trash their cars every few years. It was humorous to me!

I really wanted to drop a 4agze in mine but it was falling apart around me.
My Machinery mechanics grandson did one up about 8 years ago.
Full Supra suspension and a 1JZ with a turbo big enough to fit your head in shoe horned into it and a $7000 HouseofKolor candy apple red paint job you
could eat off.
He just got it finished and got a permit so he could do his sisters formal in it.
next day he was running around to get the rego finalized and a woman ran through an intersection and T-boned it.
Still sitting in the shed, would love to just reshell it and make a ratty but insanely fast TA22.
