[SOLD] [FS - VIC] Non VW - 1985 Toyota MR2 AW11 - Ex USA

I doubt anyone on here will be interested, but I've decided it's time to part with my 1985 Toyota MR2 AW11 Mk1a. :)

This car was sold new in sunny California by Cabe Toyota in Long Beach. It was shipped to Australia when it was less than a year old and converted to RHD. It must have been one of the first MR2's in Australia. There are some small clues to the fact that it started life with the steering wheel on the other side, such as the wipers sweeping the wrong way and the lumbar support is in the passenger's seat.

It was factory ordered with Air Con, Cruise Control and Sunroof. The A/C and Cruise have been removed but I have all the parts for the Cruise.

It's a 4AGE with TVIS and five speed manual. I am uncertain if the engine is original. It has about 177,000 miles on the clock. (Yes, miles not km)

It drives well with only a little smoke when you push it hard. The gearbox shifts nicely and the clutch is good. The TPS is faulty so I have disconnected it. It runs fine without it, although sometimes it idles at 1500rpm.
It pulls to the left a little under braking and there is a slight clonk in the left front, so it probably needs a bush or ball joint.
Everything electrical works and it has a half decent stereo with speakers in the front doors.
Both sway bars have been removed but come with the car including the hard to get drop links. They were removed when I purchased the car and I've never bother ed refitting them. It handles great as is.
Tyres are good - 195/50R15 front which I replaced less than 2000km ago. 205/50R15 rear. Neither are performance brands.
The paint is faded red paint with small dents, scratches and chips all over. There is a decent sized dent in the RR corner.
It leaks oil in the usual 4AGE places.
Boot lock and passenger door lock do not open with the key. They open fine from inside so they might be simple fixes.
The fuel fuller door cable is seized - I simply open it with screwdriver.
The seats are good and the dash is not cracked. The floor carpet and headlining are missing. It still has the factory floor mats supplied when new although they are very worn now.
Comes with a couple of boxes of spares and a set of 16" rims and tyres with one damaged rim.
The battery died so I'm currently using the one from my Moke which does not fit very well. If it sells I'll fit a new battery before collection.

This car would be ideal for a cheap track car project or for someone who wants to restore a rare Mk1a. Or simply spend a couple of weekends working on it and use it daily. It drives well and has to be the cheapest MR2 around that does not require major mechanical work.

Currently on Club Permit with Toyota Car Club Australia (Victoria) to 28th July which is not transferable.

Price: $1500 firm. No Reg, No RWC.

EDIT: Located Wyndham Vale 3024, 35km from Melbourne CBD.

Just put it up on Scumtree.

I'd consider a swap for a T3 van if anyone is up for that. Not fussed what engine or interior spec.
