FS - 1303 A/C System

These systems were offered in L Bugs in the US and thus are suited for LHD vehicles.

It is missing the condenser and the evaporator has a crack in the housing. I never bothered attempting to restore and install it as my car resto was a complete mission in itself and it was going to be a whole heap more effort to restore this unit and install it; all for something I'd never really use.

When I bought it roughly 5 years ago I was chatting to a guy on this forum who had the unit fitted to a RHD vehicle however it would have required some customizing as the evaporator was designed to suck air in from a hole cut in the metal behind the glovebox and blow it back through into the car via the duct of the fan mounted in the windscreen wiper housing.

Apart from a condenser, the system would require some love if it was to go in a show vehicle.

Images on the internet well document how the system was set up.

Includes-
evaporator
wiring loom and controls
compressor and mounts
crank shaft pulley
3 x hoses
accumulator

Can pick it up from Poowong in Gippsland, Doncaster in Melbourne or Burpengary just north of BNE as I float between the locations. It's currently in Vic and is that heavy it may take me several 'R&R' trips back to BNE for it to be included in the free baggage allowance.

I would think there would only be a couple of these systems in AUS.

Make an offer, I want it gone from the back seat of my car.

Not many no.
LHD there is a couple around, most of the Lbug Cabrios imported from US had A/C but apart from mine there are only 2 other RHD ones I;ve come across and both of them had the evap cores and compressors removed.
You are also missing all the dash ducting and outlets too by the looks.

Those old York Compressors are still used now on small cool rooms

Interesting, but I don't know if I'd want to give up the boot space.

Cheers,

Hi Tim, it started out as stock Volkswagen Product Corp system same as yours but from a RHD Lbug.
I basically just kept the stock ducting and dash outlets and fitted new modern condenser, evap, compressor etc

Brett, ICEAC make an underdash system for Lbugs so you dont lose any boot space but as a trade off passenger leg room is a bit cramped.
Not sure if they do RHD though.
