Sunroof drain channels
Anyone know or has a diagramm of where the draintubes release the water from a steel sliding sunroof in a type three notch.
There is one each side forward and one each side behind
Just can seem to see where they exit diwn below.
Cheers
Steffen

I fitted a Golde slider into my Oval Beetle and the body I cut it from was too rusted to see where any drains were. I decided to come up with my own
idea for drains. I used 13mm plastic tube from each fitting and run all drains to exit under each mudguard. At the end of each tube I used a 13mm
black drip system 90 degree elbow. I found a rubber sealing bung that was tight on the elbow, then used a hole saw to cut the correct size hole to suit
the OD of the sealing bung. Then connected the plastic tube to the elbow, pushed it through the bung, then used black dripper hose to run down under
the guards. I made the dripper hoses long enough to end near the floor pan and used a clamp bolted under the very bottom mudguard bolts. This way you
will never have a chance of water getting into your car to start rust happening. I did put a smear of silicone around each drain pipe before I pushed
the plastic tube on. I also used those O clamps that you pinch up with a tile cutter. There is a post on here from the time I restored my Oval and
there were some pics of the drain tube locations. If you can't find them- message me and I can send you some.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion.
Mine is actually a factory golde sliding sunroof and all the pipes are there and installed
So I like to know where they would exit any info on original exit points would be great.
Cheers

Mine is a factory Golde sunroof- I just transferred it to another body. As I posted, it was to rusted to actually spot where the drains were- hence
the need to improve on that set up. I suspect the drains were in the front quarter panels and drained near the heater tube and the rears went into the
quarter panels and drained somewhere near the jacking points. I have a Type 3 workshop manual with an excellent section on how to maintain and adjust
the sliding mechanism - I will check it out for drain locations.

Wow what a cool and crazy site
A lot of info there
I can't find anything useful on type three drainpipes / body stuff though
Will do a bit more searching
Hopefully I am not getting distracted reading about all the other stuff there
Cheers

No info found on that site. Still looking for a diagramm or something.
Would the bentley manual for type threees have it?
Can someone check.

My Type 3 Workshop Manual shows only adjustments and R&R procedure. You should be able to see a drain tube coming from the A pillars going
somewhere down into front 1/4 panels. On the Beetle they come out alongside the wiring loom from the roof channel. The rears should run down the body
panel behind the rear 1/4 windows and could even go forward and drop from the body somewhere near the jacking point or go backwards and drop out
behind the rear wheel arch. From memory when I cut mine from the Beetle, there were round ferrules that had been crimped to the body just outside where
it meets the floor pan at each 1/4 panel. The bulk of the ferrule was inside the body where the tube would have attached, with only about a 10 or 12mm
hole visible from underneath.
