Swing Axle Rear Wheel Bearings
Super simple one today.
The rear wheel bearings, are they pressed onto the axle or are can they be replaced just by removing the brakes & seals etc.

You have to take the outer cv off the axle first, (I'm assuming Irs rear end), then tap/press out the axle towards the gearbox, knock the bearings
out and knock in the new ones. Then tap/press the axle back through the installed bearings/seals. If its a swing axle I have no idea! 
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

Sorry, should have been more specific, it is a swing axle.

Had a look around and it was mixed, some say use a puller others claim pressed (Atleast the majority say puller which has me pleased)
One more thing sorry, there are 4 bearings yes? (sorry, I havent done the rear berings before)

Hmm I done mine on car, think I just used a hammer and a drift/punch
I think swing axle 1
irs 2 or is it kombis have 2 each side ??????

remove down to brake backing plate. Tap driveshaft into gearbox till it stops and then pull towards you. Hopefully this will release the bering from
the shallow recess in the hub housing. Then I used varying thickness of metal plate between the bearing and housing and tapped the driveshaft back
into the gearbox. Pull forward again and keep doing this till enough room to get a pullers legs behind the bearing. Now you can use that to draw the
bearing from the shaft
That's how I did it cos otherwise you need a special puller whose legs can fit thru the bearing.

Swing axle is definately one bearing and a special VW puller is required. Occasionally it'll come off like Ian said, but you have to be very wary.
The axle must stay engaged with the diff to keep the fulcrum plates in the side gears, if allowed to move outboard by more than 20mm or so, you run
the risk of this. Then it,s gearbox out and side covers off to fix!
