Late type 3 indicator rubber seals
Hello everyone
if you own a late model type 3 you may find it difficult to replace
your aging front indicator rubber seals - I certainly am.
I managed to locate some second hand body seals (in reasonable condition). However the rubber tubing that carried the wiring to the headlight bucket
was shot.
I thought I would share my solution for any else in this predicament.
1 Get a headlight bucket drain plug for a type 1.
2, Go to Clark Rubber and buy some and buy some 10 mm rubber cord - the stuff used for exercise machines to provide resistance. It's very soft and
flexible.
3. Both items have the same outside diameter and glue together (superglue) nicely. I glued an additional collar at the joint. The cord also fits
snugly into the hole at the back of the lamp housing seal.
Anyway, it's not an Earth shattering solution but it still looks the part and should keep everything water tight.

These rubber boots are around as I managed to pick up a NOS set from the US a little while ago for my Squareback. You can try samba.com and place a
WTB add for them. People are always sitting on little treasures waiting for the right collector who needs them. But a good thrifty idea to use old
ones. They do have high environmental exposure so are prone to eventual disintegration.

I remain perplexed as to why no one is making reproduction seals for the 70s models. (There seems to be no problems sourcing the seals for the
earlier models)
