test run


Greetings all
I am after test running my engine and need to know what power ie to coil to run? Also I have a new alternator on it and need to work out wiring as replacing the whole car
The engine is a 1500 sp with h30/31pict carb that has three hose holes on the front with blanks on? So which is vacuum advance?

Tube on accel cable side of carb half way up body is the vac takeoff. One of the others maybe but I'm not sure as if the small hole in the choke by the throttle butterfly is in the wrong place then you get the wrong signal or none at all.

Wiring is easy if you let me know what year you have and maybe a pic of the wires you have lose in the engine bay? Also, is the new alternator one with an internal regulator? Otherwise things will get damaged.

No wires in engine at all, have connected the +ve of the coil to the fuel shut off and auto choke and that all, how can I tell if it has the regulator in it ls?

Yea, black wire to coil then had the choke n shutoff piggybacked from it so that's good.

Alternator you bought should have said if it was with or without internal reg. Otherwise doing a search on the part number will be needed as I've not played with Beetle alternators enough to spot any difference.

External regulator alternators have a 3 pin plug on the top.

Internal regulator alternators just have a large B+ and a small DF/D+ terminal.




I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!:lol:
