electronic ignition
I was thinking of chaning my dizzy to an electronic unit, for my 1600 TP motor. Pertronics do a conversion for the 009 for 190 bucks including a new
coil. Or for 159 I can get the whole electronic distributor for off ebay. Which is the better way to go? If the quality of the new Edizzy from ebay is
pretty ordinary maybe a good quality conversion is better way? but is the 009 sharft worn.... how do I check that? imput thanks

Why update just the dizzy? you will retain any slop in the system or wear. I went crank fire and will never look back, so much better in terms of
driveability and have CNP setup (4 logic level coils). Dialed out any pinking which i got lots of with a dizzy and now it is load rated right through
the rev range and can set up a full ignition map 12x12 at correct advance for load.

Is that overkill for a stock 1600 TP? what does that set up cost? sounds complicated too.

One thing to remember if the dissy has a shit your stuck on side of road, with pertronix unit fitted to original distributor then refit points drive
home. Just a simple point ,have used pertronix unit in my original distributor for 5000km with no issues.

My stock Bosch dizzy has got 86K km on it with points and still goes well too.........
Beware of some cheap dizzy's, they can have a lot of spark scatter, even brand new ones can be as much as 4* out or more. A rebuilt OEM Bosch dizzy
rarely has 1* of scatter between cylinders, usually well under, and if you add a simple HEI or TFI module the points will then last for tens of 1000s
of km without any adjustment, coz they only carry .125A not 3A, so never wear out basically. 4-pin HEI modules can be had for under $40 (then a bit
more for a new coil), and generate enough spark to throw your head into the engine hatch easy!
Not persuading you one way or the other, just something to think about for the cost-per-result equation.

If its built right you never need to worry about the old "yeah but if it craps itself on the side of the road", Yeah any car can crap itself, just
use quality parts and worry no more.
If the worry of breaking down is wrecking your head you are doing something wrong
