How to unlower a superbug front end


Hi All,
I have a 72 Super that have been significantly lowered (at least 2") and need help to work out how it was lowered so I can return to standard height. Could someone list the ways that a strut can be lowered and how can I check/measure to confirm.
I'm hoping it's just a mater of replacing the springs?

This is a link to lowering a Super. It will give you some information to work out stock height. I would say easiest way to raise would be to buy some stock struts, and sell your lowered struts.

Maybe a swap can be organised

I could not see where the struts had been cut & welded on mine but looking at the pics my strut length below the spring base looks about 1/2 what the standard strut height is. And if thats a 60mm lower mine must be a good 100mm lower because the tyres are well up inside the guards. A swap would be hard as its a daily driver. Where would be the best place to by new struts?

THey are probably adjustable struts just on the lowest setting.
Stock struts run out of travel before they get that low.

I have a s/h pair of 3 bolt struts complete with springs in Taree if interested please PM.These will probably need new inserts.

Hey Joel, Pulled the wheel off and had a good look yesterday and they do indeed seen like they are adjustable struts. There are ring grooves in the strut and a bit of surfn on the web they look like EMPI type. The topline ones have move grooves.

I'm hoping it just a simple case of adjusting them back up. Anyone know what the lowered amount will be on the top adjustment if I adjust them up to the highest setting?

I've found with those that the stock springs on the highest setting is about 1.5- 2" lower than stock but it varies from car to car depending how tired the springs are.

2" max lower would probably be OK, I think the superbugs look best when they are level and not have the nose up in the air. What were they 1"- 2" higher in the front as standard?

So do you think I should be able to just put a set of spring compressors on and do the adjustment with the strut still in the car

You can try but compressing them enough to get it up on the highest groove can be tricky when in the car.

The nose up stance gave them better self centering but also made them wander at speed but most have sagged in the arse over the years which lifts the front up.
