Tying a car down on car trailer, what load rating on straps???
Looking at hiring a car trailer to pick up a old Golf, hire trailers don't come with tie-downs or chains (due to insurance reasons I think), so what
load rating to I need for the tie downs that I'll be using? Are there any regulations or formulas? Had a look on the NSW RMS website & couldn't
find anything on securing loads (thought there would be heaps).
for the point of the exercise lets say the Golf is around 1500kg.
Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable members can help me out here.
Thanks in advance as they say.
Brendan

No matter how many you use make sure its rated higher than the weight of the car, in other words if all the other tie downs fail and you only have one
left holding the car you want it to be 1500kg or higher, I use 2x2000kg on my car

I use 1x 2000kg tie down for the front of the Beetle and 2x 1500kg tie downs for the rear.
You have to be ready for some idiot to jump out in front of you and expect you to be able to stop on a dime. Make sure you buy load rated and tagged
ratchet straps. Good advise from Steve too.

I actually tie down each wheel to the trailer with 1,500kg straps and never had any trouble.
